Is Fibromyalgia a basis for being awarded Social Security Disability?

Yes, I have represented many claimants in the past and currently who suffer with fibromyalgia.  It can be very debilitating.  Many years ago, doctors used to diagnose their patients with fibromyalgia when they could not figure out any other source of their pain.  In the past several years, the Social Security Administration has become much more understanding and aware of the symptoms that fibromyalgia can cause for claimants.  If you want to improve your chances for getting approved on the basis of fibromyalgia, it would be helpful to be properly evaluated and diagnosed by a rheumatologist.  There is an 18 tender point exam that your doctor should perform on you to properly diagnose you with fibromyalgia.
